Michael Cole

Born and raised in the small village of Happisburgh on the East coast of England, Mike moved to Waterville, Maine (USA) at the age of 14. Mike’s passion for storytelling became apparent from a very early age and he started taking pictures before he was in double digits. By the time he was 18 and a senior in high school he had won the grand prize for Hershey's national competition, "Get on Board and Read," with a short video. In the same year he was part of a team of 3 that took first place for a short film at the Maine Student Film and Video Festival (MSFVF).

In college, during his studies of audiovisual communication, a professor once mentioned that “you should be able to pause a movie at any given frame and the image on screen makes a good picture”. This really hit home and stuck with Mike, so he decided to take a step back and study the art of photography as a stepping-stone on his journey to cinematography.

Mike has worked professionally in the field of media production for a decade. He feels very passionately about what he does and is at his happiest with a camera in his hands. Mike feels very strongly about the art of cinematography, and how all the aspects of visual storytelling can relay certain feelings and emotions to the viewer to further enhance the story.

Before co-founding Catharsis Media Mike served as photographer for Lifetouch National School Studios, Media Department Head at Camp Vega & Photojournalist for WABI TV5. Mike holds an Associates Degree in Communications and New Media.
